Regardless of your political proclivities, we're pretty pumped that our instructor, Samantha, is sharing her expertise and passion for women's health with the world! She was featured, with a mention of Whole Mission, in a recent New York Times article.

Of note:

The Marquette Method is actually 98% effective in typical use, not 77% as stated by ACOG.

We don't recommend using an app for fertility awareness predictions! It's not going to be as effective as having a healthcare professional teacher, like Samantha, walking you through how to use the method in your unique circumstances. I love using @read.your.body to chart, but you've got to interpret your cycles in full context!

Is everyone switching to Mira??

Nope!

For the most part, the Clearblue monitor is our mainstay, as we have evidence-based protocols and actual effectiveness data we can share with you. We’re still learning how the Mira device works, and if the protocols will be effective. The technology is changing, and we’re trying to keep up!

If you’re just looking for a device that will have you abstain less while avoiding pregnancy, the Mira ain’t it. Sorry, the protocols are more conservative in many cases! 👩‍❤️‍👨

Some couples who might benefit from adding Mira to their NFP plan:
✨ Women in perimenopause
✨ Women with PCOS
✨ Couples who want to double-check the Clearblue test results (officially, we’re recommending you chart with both the Clearblue and the Mira, especially if you’re postpartum!)
✨ Women with complex health situations who would like more information about their hormones

Maybe that’s you, and you’re sold on the Mira. But… this sounds like a lot of monetary cost already… so why the heck are our Mira classes more expensive at Whole Mission??

💙 We developed our entire course content, class experience, and online resources with you in mind, helping to support your understanding of the Mira device and the Marquette Method.
💙 Our instructors are available for unlimited follow-up as you get used to using the Marquette Method, and with the Mira, we are seeing a LOT more difficult cycle presentations (I’m looking at you perimenopause), which means a lot more time dedicated to YOU! They’re ready to help you understand what’s happening with your hormones, and refer you with helpful guidance to take to your PCP if anything seems “off.”
💙 Since the protocols are “provisional,” they’re apt to change with research, and our instructors need to stay up to date on these changes. This takes time, and active membership in the Marquette Method Professionals Association, which is an added cost for our instructors.

Bottom line, our instructors are amazing, and we hope you agree!

Our families of origin and society DO play a role in our discernment, but they should be kept in proper order. If you have one of those families that kind of looks at you sideways each time you announce a pregnancy, wondering “You know what causes that, right?” (Yes, we teach classes in it.), take a breath, remember their concerns do matter, but maybe not as much as you are assuming.

There are quite a few saints who chose paths contrary to their parent’s wishes, so let’s remember you’re not alone if you’re prioritizing God’s will in your life, and following a path that veers from the one your parents had planned for you, however well-intentioned.

St. Catherine of Siena’s parents fought her on her plans to be a consecrated virgin, and St. Francis of Assisi’s father actually locked him in a tiny dungeon to prevent him from living a life of poverty and prayer (joke’s on him, a dungeon is a perfect place to pray!).

The choice to welcome lots of children, or work with a natural fertility doctor to treat subfertility, may not seem so drastic as these cases, but you are allowing the Lord to shape your life in a way that is counter-cultural! Putting God’s call first is exactly how we become Saints: we unite our wills to God’s will, and other people often challenge that. Growth is uncomfortable.” —Lauren Vitale

That working title might need to be tightened up a bit…but truly, the gift of marriage and how spouses learn to communicate and be intimate through NFP is such a gift. We want to celebrate you and your spouse’s commitment to love each other in the fullest possible way! Keep on keepin’ on choosing each other and not giving up.

I had picked up the Catechism of the Catholic Church out of curiosity as to what the Church actually taught about contraceptives, and by the time I put it down, I was so convicted by the beauty and truth in these teachings that I immediately started searching for NFP methods.

I found the Marquette Method, and after implementing this method in my own marriage, I wanted to share it with all my friends! It was so simple to implement and so empowering!

I had gone through a BS in Physiology and a Masters in Public Health, and I never learned to chart my fertility. I’m honored now to be able to teach couples about how to track their fertility so they can love each other with their whole selves, respecting their God-given fertility as they plan and grow their families.” -Kate Yep, MPH

Topics covered in the class include Theology of the Body, benefits of breastfeeding, getting started, learning latch and positioning techniques, as well as options for using natural family planning while breastfeeding (does not include formal instruction in the Marquette Method), and overcoming common lactation challenges.

Information on pumping and storing expressed milk, nutrition for the nursing mother, starting your baby on solids, and the weaning process will also be discussed.
