ABOUT THE MARQUETTE METHOD

The Marquette Method is a type of natural family planning (NFP). Couples observe and track signs of fertility. Equipped with that information, couples can then change their behaviors to avoid or achieve pregnancy.

The Marquette Method uses two main indicators to determine fertility: cervical mucus observations and urinary hormone measurements. One or both signs are tracked based on user preference, and then combined with a simple protocol to determine the days pregnancy is possible.

LOVE YOUR SPOUSE FULLY

Using Natural Family Planning allows you to give yourself fully to your spouse without placing any barriers, whether chemical or physical, between each other. This means your love is authentic and respects the truth of the human person.

HELP ACHIEVE PREGNANCY

Charting your fertility will help you identify your most fertile days, and can reduce the time to achieve pregnancy, or help you time conception better. Knowing your peak in fertility can even give you a better estimate of your due date.

AVOID PREGNANCY EFFECTIVELY

The Marquette Method has demonstrated high effectiveness for couples avoiding pregnancy in several studies, with typical use effectiveness over 98% among women in regular cycles.

KNOW YOUR BODY AND YOUR HEALTH

Healthy cycles are a strong indicator of overall health. Some health issues can be identified in charting, and Marquette instructors, as healthcare professionals, are able to give you recommendations within their scope of practice and guide you on where to find medical treatment that respects your fertility.

CLASSES

All class options include individual follow-up for a minimum of 1 full year, and course documents are included. Fertility testing supplies are not included: you do not need to have a fertility monitor before taking a class.

BREASTFEEDING PROTOCOLS

Couples who are expecting or have recently had a baby and would like to avoid pregnancy will learn how to apply the Marquette Method breastfeeding protocols. Additional follow-up is offered to breastfeeding women through 6 cycles of charting.

MARRIAGE PREPARATION

Couples who require a certificate of completion for marriage preparation can schedule a second session with their instructor to look more closely at special circumstances that may arise through the reproductive years and discuss the benefits of natural family planning within marriage.

A certificate of completion will be provided after the couple has completed 2 follow-up meetings.

CONTINUED FOLLOW-UP

After your introductory class, you may contact your instructor for follow-up as needed for a minimum of one full year. This can be especially beneficial as you move from the theory of NFP while engaged, to the practice of NFP while married, or during postpartum or perimenopause transitions. After one year, you have the option to continue services with ongoing consultation for an additional fee.

ROSEMARY MACKENZIE, BSN, RN, CEN

Rose graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Saginaw Valley State University in 2011, and previously worked as a Clinical Coordinator/Charge Nurse at an emergency department and as RN at a Women’s Health and Fertility Care Center that focuses on restorative health with NaPro and FEMM practices. Currently, she works as a NFP Practitioner, Fertility Coach, and Medical Affairs Specialist at Mira. In 2015, Rose and her husband, John, became Sympto-Thermal Method NFP Instructors and contributed to the development of the local NFP resource website, grnfp.org. Personally, she sees many benefits of NFP on her marriage and reproductive health. Understanding her signs and symptoms of fertility allowed her to discover an issue with low progesterone before and during pregnancy. With this knowledge, she sought out a NaPro physician to treat her low progesterone. After the birth of their third child, Rose and John came to know, and appreciate, the objective nature of the postpartum protocol of the Marquette Method. Along with being certified to teach the Sympto-thermal Method, Rose became a Standard Day Method Instructor and Marquette Instructor in 2020. She has experience helping couples track their fertility with the Clearblue fertility monitor, Mira quantitative hormone monitor, Proov, and LH test strips. Rose grew up on her parent’s family-owned dairy farm and admits she will always be a farm girl at heart, but has come to enjoy some aspects of city-living such as a plethora of great restaurants, concerts, and events. She loves ice cream, the outdoors, and traveling.

AMANDA SOLT, BSN, RN, MMCP

Amanda graduated nursing school in 2013 from Oakland University in Rochester, MI. Amanda worked clinically until after her daughter was born in 2016. Amanda and her husband have been married since 2015. They have three children: Emilia, Anastasia and Thomas. After moving to West Michigan in 2017 she discovered the Marquette Method of NFP after using a different method previously. She instantly became passionate about the method and felt called to share it with others. Amanda completed her certification through Marquette University in 2021. Amanda teaches both regular cycle and breastfeeding classes. She has a special passion for teaching engaged couples and sharing the good news of NFP and God’s plan for marriage. She enjoys working with all couples, encouraging them and helping to gain confidence in utilizing NFP.

**A Note on Mira:

We are aware that Mira as a company has shown support for practices and behaviors that are contrary to Catholic teaching. We strongly disagree with those views, and only recommend the use of the Mira monitor for use in Natural Family Planning, while preserving the natural fertility of the man and woman. We are opposed to ART/IVF and any behaviors and actions that do not respect the inherent dignity of persons and honor the unitive and procreative nature of intercourse, and further reject those behaviors and actions that do not honor the gift of marriage between one man and one woman. (See the Catechism of the Catholic Church 2376, 2377, and 2357). Read more about our Catholic Values here.
